The Juki TL-2010Q and Juki TL-18QVP are both high-quality straight-stitch semi-industrial sewing machines! That's a mouthful, isn't it!? Although they are similar in many ways, there are a few differences that should be considered when deciding which sewing machine will suit you best.
LuAnn Hartley, from Juki, did a beautiful job demonstrating these Juki machines during our SewCreative Live Christmas event in December of 2022. We hope that you enjoyed this replay as it is packed full of great sewing tips, in addition to showcasing the TL-2010Q and TL-18QVP straight stitch quilting machines!
Let's talk features of these straight stitch sewing machines!
Speed Control
Both machines have a wonderful speed control! This is especially useful with detailed quilting, like feathering and stippling. You can vary the speed of the foot control to your liking. It can be lowered to as slow as 200spm or maxed out at 1500spm.
Large Throat Space
The built-in needle threader is featured on both models, as is the large work area. The convenient, large throat space of 8.5" makes it easy to work on large projects without your fabric getting bunched up. It is also helpful when doing free-motion sewing, giving you ample room to freely move while creating your beautiful design. The sewing extension table is included with both models, as well! It's a great perk that it doesn't need to be purchased separately!
You may be thinking, they look the same. They have similar features. Well, let's talk about accessories. The Juki TL-2010Q machine comes with a few presser feet; whereas, the Juki TL-18QVP comes with a much larger selection of presser feet. I have included links for both machines so that you can see detailed lists of the included accessories.
What can these straight stitch machines handle?
The Juki TL series straight stitch sewing machines that are considered semi-industrial! The Juki TL-2010Q and the Juki TL-18QVP both sew through thick materials easily. Designed for quilting, these sewing machines can handle a thick quilt sandwich. Multiple layers are no trouble! Denim, leather, vinyl -no worries! These machines are perfectly capable of handling that for you, too!
Easy Drop Feed Dogs
No need to install a special darning plate when you want to do free motion sewing. Both models feature easy drop feed dogs. With a built in switch, you can easily lower your feed dogs below the needle plate. This will allow you to freely move your fabric and create some beautiful designs.
Knee Lifter
Ever find that you need an extra hand? Well, these machines have a knee lifter. This feature is crazy convenient when quilting. When you need to pivot, use your knee to lift the presser foot! Easy peasy and you don't have to move your hands!
Differences between the two straight-stitch sewing machines
Micro Lift
The Juki TL-18QVP has the Micro-Lift; whereas, the Juki TL-201Q does not. This is feature is also known as a "float function." It is normally a feature that you would see on an industrial machine, but Juki incorporated it into this fabulous semi-industrial machine. The presser foot can "float" anywhere from 0 to 2 mm above the material. This is especially useful when you have thick seams or an extra thick quilt sandwich.
LED Lighting
Both of these straight-stitch sewing machines are equipped with a powerful LED light, designed to help you see more clearly. Positioned exactly where you need it, right above the needle area, the light allows you to see what you are doing, ensuring that your stitches will come out perfectly. The Juki TL-18QVP model has an additional feature when it comes to its light. You have the ability to open the faceplate and turn it off.
